Davis Mills has been better than expected, but outside of a shockingly outstanding performance against New England, he has thrown for six interceptions to just one touchdown in four other starts. Brandin Cooks has been the lifeblood of the offense, and he finished with nine catches for 89 yards in Week 6, but the lack of proven pass-catchers outside of Cooks has held back the scoring. Rookie Nico Collins had four catches for 44 yards against the Colts last week, and he could pick up a more significant role moving forward. Mills has struggled under pressure, as most rookie passers do, especially behind an abysmal offensive line. The running backs in David Johnson, Mark Ingram, and Phillip Lindsay have been gross and unproductive. Zach Wilson is steadily improving and should come out firing after the bye week with a full complement of skill position players to support him.
The second-year back ran for 157 yards on 27 carries against the 49ers last week. Johnson scored twice and carried much of the offensive load for the Palmer-less Cardinals. The defense also sacked 49ers QB Blaine Gabbert seven times, an added bonus.
The hottest team in the NFL right now resides in Houston where the Texans have won nine straight since dropping the first three games of the season. Houston beat the Colts in their first meeting this season back in September. The overtime victory was the Texans first of the season and the one that started the nine-game streak. The Panthers (6-7) appeared to be headed to a wild card spot when they were 6-2 just over a month ago. Five straight losses later, Carolina looks like it will be sitting at home during playoff season. The Panthers are one of three 6-7 teams that are on the outside looking in.
The Steelers came out firing in week 1 with an upset win of their own against the Super Bowl hopeful Buffalo Bills in Buffalo. Roethlisburger has a vast arsenal at his disposal, including rookie running back Najee Harris who looks to have a lot of potential and versatility in his role as an every down back. The Steelers will look to maintain the lead of the AFC North in the first two weeks of the 2021 season when they play host to their old hated rival Raiders from the 70s.
If history is any indication, the outlook for the Jags doesn’t look good. New England http://o3hygienics.com/pl-statement-for-rental-property-and-free-property-management-spreadsheet-excel-template-for-tracking-rental-income-and-expenses/ rallied in last year’s AFC title game to win and earn a trip to Super Bowl LII, but the two teams’ prior history is even more slanted in favor of New England. Jacksonville and the Patriots have played each other 12 times in NFL history. The only Jacksonville victory came in the AFC Wild Card game at the end of the 1998 season.
For Dallas to have a shot at winning in Arizona, they are going to have to fix their running game. That forced QB Dak Prescott to attempt 50 passes, something that head coach Jason Garrett would like to avoid. The Seattle Seahawks (1-1) have exactly one touchdown this season.
Running back Lamar Miller nears the 1,000-yard mark with 876 and WR DeAndre Hopkins is having an All-Pro caliber season with 1,115 yards on 80 catches. The Indianapolis defense has been suspect in the past and will need to slow down the Houston offense to have a chance. Seattle put itself right back in the thick of the playoff race by beating Green Bay, Carolina, and San Francisco in succession. Last week against the 49ers, Wilson threw just 17 times, completed only 11 but tossed four touchdowns in a victory. With the Rams having clinched the NFC West, the Seahawks only route to the postseason is via a wild card.
Cleveland is particularly poor against the pass, where they rank 30th in the NFL. Andy Dalton and AJ Green should have a field day against these guys, and they’re likely to jump out to a pretty big lead at home. Once that happens, expect their defense to pump the brakes a little and the Browns to grind their way up to 20 points or so.
We had Carolina teased up to +7.5, and we needed as many points as we could get as the game went to OT and the Vikings ultimately won by six points. The second leg was Arizona +8.5, and this game was never in doubt as Arizona went into Cleveland and emerged with a blowout win as a small underdog. If you’ve been following along with the Basic Strategy Teaser since Week 1, you would be up a good chunk of change. The teaser that I give out on a weekly basis is hitting at an 80 percent clip, and I fully expect to continue that run into the middle portion of the season. Sportsbooks have not yet adjusted the spreads they give out to take away the opportunity for proper teasers.
The Packers use both Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams in the run game. Green Bay averages 104 rushing yards per game and needs to have success running the ball against New England in an effort to keep the football away from Brady and the Patriots offense. The Redskins defense has kept the team in games this season by allowing 19.8 points per game. Washington’s defense will face a Cowboys offense that has had its own share of struggles.
